Battlefield

Working with the Battlefield development team, my team created an online player stats portal, developed a portal for a “Boot Camp” tips & tricks section. We also created a fully custom website to host content highlighting game modes, maps, features, and expansions.

Titanfall

I worked with the Respawn Entertainment editorial team to develop a series of features profiling the Titans available in the game showing off the abilities and unique trait of each. We also had regular spotlights of community generated content to engage the player base.

Madden NFL

For the Madden franchise, we implemented some long-asked for features such as an online player stats database as well as user stats and play history. We also created new features for Madden Ultimate Team Rewards and a really cool live NFL Draft player ratings feature.

Need for Speed

In talks with the team at Ghost Games, I suggested a feature to let players view stats of popular vehicles in the game including the ability to rotate them 360°. Players loved how this feature was implemented, but it was just one of many features we created to highlight the in-game content.

Burnout

Leading up to the Remaster of Burnout Paradise, we worked with the brand team to quickly turn around in-game content features. One of the coolest in my opinion was an interactive map of Paradise City highlighting the content available in each district.

NBA LIVE

Being involved in the return of NBA LIVE after a dramatic quality-control hiatus was very interesting. We worked with the team to figure out the best way to revive the franchise. We created a very deep focus on league vs. street gameplay and introduced RPG-like player classes and traits.

 

 

FurstPerson

FurstPerson was a provider of pre-hire assessments and simulations, measuring personality, skills, and ability related to job performance. As FurstPerson’s Director of Product, I managed the Research and Development team in new product development, delivery platform improvements, and existing product maintenance. I built and managed a team of I/O Psychologists and an Interaction Designer conducting research into new ways to measure candidates’ traits and how best to implement them.

During my time, we focused on new opportunities to support our clients, opening up new lines of business by measuring new skills, and gamifying assessment to create the best possible candidate experience. We also redesigned the entire application process to better engage and retain candidates. We also worked on a new tool set to give our clients different levels of control, so we are better able to scale our client base and they have more flexibility to setup the process they want their applicants to go through. Our focus on gamification and interactivity stems from research that shows that it increases the perception of our client company, promotes more honest responses, and increases completion rates. I always make evidence-based product decisions and I really enjoyed working with a team of research-based thinkers.

One project that I’m particularly proud of the team’s work on is our leadership simulation. We took the potential of games from David Cage, Telltale, and Supermassive and leveraged it to really understand the person behind the keyboard. We would put an applicant in a situation relevant to the job they’re applying for and present them with a number of scenarios where they have to decide what to do, what to say, and what their priorities are. Giving the user full control of the situation let us collect more data points than ever before, so we can more accurately measure their skills, personality, and preferences while at the same time, they can have fun and really show off what they could do in the job!

After three great years working to revolutionize the industry standard, FurstPerson was acquired by OutMatch, bringing our product offerings and platform under their larger recruiting technology platform.

 

Leadership Simulation

 

NextAgency

At NextAgency, I worked with a team of experienced insurance agents to create a SaaS platform designed to make the insurance sales and enrollment process as simple as possible. Dubbed “Salesforce for Insurance Brokers”, we created a toolset that not only gives the broker everything they need to make their lives easy, but also a toolset they can offer their clients to get the most out of the platform.

I did market research to understand what brokers need and want, so we could first and foremost make the platform the best possible destination for those users. Once the broker side was fine tuned, we focused on how we can optimize the other side of the equation. We created a revolutionary new insurance shopping experience working with insurance providers to develop a database of insurance plans, costs, and coverage details. We also developed a set of HR management tools allowing users to setup and manage onboarding processes and paperwork, PTO, time-tracking, and payroll.

To make the bringing clients into the platform as simple as possible, I worked to create a series of partnerships with HR Services providers to allow clients to pull in all of their existing information and services to be managed in a single location. I’m really proud of what we built with NextAgency, bringing brokers and their clients the best-in-class platform to manage their sales, relationships, and enrollment processes.

Pocodot

I always tell people Pocodot was the product I’ve worked on that I’m most proud of and that’s because it was my baby from beginning to end. Before bringing the idea to my business partners, I contacted hundreds of tour guides around the globe to understand how they work, the rates they charge, regulations in different cities, and how their experience could be improved with a mobile booking app.

After pulling together requirements and a rough plan for getting tour guides on board in different cities, I took the plan to my business partners and we kicked off development. I worked with our developers and designers on the day-to-day development work while also working to partner with tour guides. I set up partnerships with the New York City and London tour guide associations to spread the word and to quickly get licensed association members as our initial service providers. Following Uber’s model of having varied operations in different cities, I also worked with guides in different cities to create a set of standardized pricing that works for guides across the city. We also worked to implement different tour types differentiating walking, biking, and driving tours.

After our soft launch, I also began exploring the possibilities of potential partnerships to expand our monetization opportunities. We setup programs with local businesses to provide discounts, include direct visits in certain tour options, and have directly sponsored tours. We also worked with hotel concierges and travel agents to drive more traffic for our service providers.

Flinja

Flinja (Freelance Ninja) is a freelancing platform targeted toward students and recent grads. Coming out of Stanford, a common theme I noticed from personal experience and conversations with my friends was that all of the job posts we were interested in required experience. Looking into that problem a little bit, I quickly found Flinja. Flinja was in its infancy at the time, but I saw a lot of opportunity and reached out. Shortly thereafter, I joined the team and we got to work on building out and optimizing the platform working towards a solution that gives students and recent grads a platform to build their skillset and work experience.

We partnered with fortune 500 companies and fellow start ups to create a solid portfolio of clients for our service providers. One of the major features we rolled out that drastically increased the engagement with the platform was the community section. We created a place where Flinjas could chat about their experience and get advice and hiring managers could discuss their experiences. We also had a separate section that was available to both types of users, so they could talk directly. We created topics regularly to engage our users and get them talking. For example, we had topics about best practices, what should be included in their profiles, and how a Flinja can stand out to the hiring managers.

We eventually wanted to evolve the platform to take advantage of the on-demand service market that was growing with companies like Uber, Postmates, and TaskRabbit. We worked with specific categories of service providers that make sense for on-demand work to develop a mobile app focused on short-term engagements. We also expanded the app to allow access to all other Flinja platform features for communication and management.
