Trevor Metoxen is a Product and Strategy Leader

“I turn ideas into reality and then make those ideas better.”

I grew up in Wisconsin, but left to study management and engineering at Stanford University. I currently live with my beautiful wife in Fort Myers, Florida.

I’ve hopped from industry to industry bringing my expertise in market analysis, product strategy, and team-building. I work with my product teams to elegantly solve solutions and to best position our solutions for current market opportunities. I consistently work to create strategic market partnerships that benefit all parties to increase the value offered by hi products, bringing the best possible experience to the users.

My Process

Dream it.

It all starts with an idea. We plan our position in the market and our target customers and do the research to support the idea.

Build it.

The best way to build a great product is to build a great team behind the product. Then we do the design and development work.

Sell it.

Now we can implement our marketing strategy, getting the product in the hands of our customers and setting up strategic partnerships in the market.

Grow it.

Then we focus not only on growing our customer base, but growing the value that we provide to existing users as well as new features to attract new users.

What I’ve Built

Electronic Arts

As a producer, I led a team working on features supporting the player bases of the Battlefield, Titanfall, Madden NFL, NBA LIVE, Need for Speed, and Burnout franchises. From in-depth player stats to interactive previews of in-game content, I created content that excited new players and provided additional value to existing players in a live-service environment.

FurstPerson

As the Director of Product, I led the Research and Development team in revolutionizing pre-hire assessment as well as personnel development. Using gamification to make interactive assessments and simulations, we created experiences that better engage and measure the traits and skills of job applicants. Creating the most engaging tools on the market resulted in the acquisition of FurstPerson by Outmatch.

Pocodot

Pocodot began as a personal idea that grew into something great. We created a two-sided marketplace for tour guides and guided experiences (sure, “Uber for Tour Guides”). We created a network of the top licensed tour guides in major cities in the US and Europe. We setup partnerships with city tour guide associations, local businesses, and hotels to rapidly grow our user base.

NextAgency

Working with a team of insurance industry veterans, we created a platform for insurance agents to easily manage their client enrollments while also providing their clients with a deep set of tools to manage their company’s HR needs from on-boarding and benefits enrollment to PTO and time-tracking. Dubbed “Salesforce for insurance agents”, we created the best in class platform with many industry-first features that help companies choose the best plan for their employees.

Flinja

Coming out of my time at Stanford, I became acquainted with the issue in the job market where everything requires specific experience without the opportunity to build that experience. With Flinja we worked to create a marketplace where students and recent graduates could build up their experience leveraging our network of start-ups and Fortune 500 companies. We built a community of hundreds of thousands of “Flinjas” and expanded the platform into an on-demand app marketplace as well.

Personal Projects

Game Development

I’m no game dev all-star, but I like to dabble in it and learn in my free time. Recently won the Kinda Funny Game Jam with my 3rd-person hero shooter, Malta Mayhem ft. Johnny Ace. My latest project was a action/puzzle game based on some Dungeons and Dragons theming. Click below to see more!

Games Industry Journalism

I enjoy staying on top of the latest happenings in the games industry along with writing and providing commentary. I’ve published 100+ articles from daily news coverage to long-form articles for the industry news site Gamespresso. I also enjoy podcasting, having produced and edited podcasts covering games, movies, tv, and general world news.

Esports

With the dawn of the StarCraft 2 Beta, I discovered my love for esports. Shortly thereafter, along with the Beta release of League of Legends, esports was experiencing a rebirth and I had to be part of it. I began the LAN club at Stanford, bringing together students to participate in tournaments for the aforementioned games as well as Smash Bros., Counter-Strike, and anything else that had enough interest. I also founded the Stanford Collegiate League of Legends team, working with Riot Games on their Collegiate LoL efforts.
